Cirencester College

Collections Assistant (Roman Mosaics)

Please note this challenge is for Cirencester College students only

Do you have an interest in history and archaeology? Would you like to gain experience in collections care and audience engagement in an award winning museum environment?

What's involved?

We are hosting 4 student placements involving the Roman mosaic collection. Students will develop skills in research and collections care, and build confidence in public engagement. The students will clean the surface of the mosaics, allowing them rare contact with the artefacts and a hands on experience. They will research the collection to gain further knowledge of archaeology and Roman history and will engage with the visiting public or deliver short talks in the galleries. Students will also take photographs and write blog entries for the website.

We are hosting 4 placement spread over two periods. These will be 2 hours per week over a 3 month period. We understand students have free slots in their study programme, so timing is negotiable.
2 placements from January to March
2 placements from April to June

Why get involved?

This is an opportunity to add to your portfolio. The role will support anybody undertaking a history, archaeology, or museums qualification in the future; as well as somebody with an interest in research and writing.
