Education Assistant

Do you want to develop your teaching practice outside of a school environment? Can you inspire children through hands-on learning? Would you like to gain experience of working in an award winning museum environment, inspiring children to love archaeology, history and heritage? If so, this role is for you.

What's involved?

We are looking for placements to work one morning a week to assist and then deliver teaching sessions and also develop an interactive trail for schools. You will be able to add to your skills base through practical hands-on teaching, you will develop leadership skills and build your own confidence, as well as add to your experience working with children. You will grow your knowledge of archaeology and history and, by the end of the placement, you will have a reference and sample of work, you have contributed, for your portfolio.

Placement lasts 3 months. 2 positions are available for a 3 month block.

2 roles – October-December

2 roles – January-March

2 roles – April-June


Time committed – role 1 – 10am-12pm Monday or Tuesday. 2 hours per week, term time only

Time committed – role 2 – 10am-12pm Wednesday or Thursday. 2 hours per week, term time only

Why get involved?

This role will support anybody undertaking a teaching qualification or someone who would like to experience teaching outside the classroom. Our client base tends to be primary school children but we do have secondary school visitors if you wish to explore this age group. You will be asked to contribute to social media through Instagram, Twitter or blog writing during your placement.

Skills - enthusiasm for learning and working with children. A background or passion for wanting to teach children. Some theoretical skills about learning styles would be beneficial, as would knowlege of the KS2 National Curriculum.
